All you'll need for this activity is a crisp new dollar bill.
Fold your dollar bill in half widthwise, and then unfold it.
| Fold your dollar bill in half lengthwise, and then unfold it. |
| Fold down the corners of one side of the bill. |
| And then fold them again, like a paper airplane. |
Fold over the triangle at the point where the two folded triangles meet. The point of the new triangle should just touch the edge of George Washington's portrait. |
| Fold the bill again at the spot where the point and the edge of the portrait met in the last step. |
| Unfold the last fold. |
| Fold the bill under so that the right-hand edge meets the left edge. |
| Unfold. |
| Turn the bill over and fold the right edge so that it meets the crease you made in the last fold. |
| Fold back this same side about 1/4" from where you made the last fold, and turn the bill over so that you get a little table. |
| Fold each of the corners of the table in and crease them. |
| Unfold the four corners and pull the edge of each side of the table back with the top of each corner coming into meet at the crease. |
| Fold the edge of the bill over the edge of the table. This is the back set of legs. |
| Fold the pointed side over at the edge of the other side of the table. This is the front set of legs. |
| Fold the point back again at the point in the middle of the front legs. This fold is made along the same crease that you made in the very first step. |
| Turn the bill over. |
| Fold the triangle back along the edge of the leg... |
| and then fold it back at the point in the middle of the leg. |
| Fold the whole piece in half. |
Fold the pointed tip back through the body so that it sticks out a little ways in back. Crease firmly.
Unfold the pointed top.
Hold the pointed piece half way down the triangle and push into the body allowing the folds you made in the last two steps to open. When the piece is half way in, crease it in place.
| Fold over the pointed tip and then unfold. It may help to do this step in both directions along the same crease. |
| Push the pointed tip into the crease you just made, alowing the folds to open and then crease it at the point where the back edge of the triangle you're creating is vertical. |
| Do a similar fold as the last step, but this time bringing the pointed tip up at a right angle. |
| Pull out a small fold from the back legs for your tail, and your donkey is done!
Place him on your desk and whenever you see his strong trunk and noble ears, think of Joseph Lieberman, a new kind of Democrat!
